Serious Shortage Protocols

A No Deal Brexit would cause – the medical evidence demonstrated – drug shortages with manifest risk to the lives of tens or hundreds of thousands.

Anticipating this, Government made provision for so-called “Serious Shortage Protocols” which enabled pharmacists to hand over substitute medicines if those prescribed by the patient’s doctor were not available.

We believed that provision was unlawful – but the Courts sided with the Government.
