Conclusion of our Ofgem Case

When we began our case against energy regulator, Ofgem, energy bills were due to go up by an unprecedented amount.  Under the price cap review that was due – it would have been an 180% increase compared to 2021- a terrifying prospect for so many of us, and one which would drive millions into fuel poverty. 

When the Government intervened to introduce the Energy Price Guarantee, capping costs at a lower rate, we paused our Ofgem challenge to assess what the Guarantee meant for our legal arguments. 

We wanted to update you that we have since received legal advice that there is no longer merit in pursuing the Ofgem challenge, due to the Government’s intervention, so the case will discontinue with both sides paying their own legal costs. We are proud of the role we and our partners played in contributing to the overall pressure which led to the Government intervention. 

This is also not the end for our campaigning in this space, as we know there are many injustices in this cost of living crisis. We are investigating new legal challenges we could undertake and will update you as soon as we have news to share.
