Legal Manager

About Good Law Project

Good Law Project is a not-for-profit campaign organisation that uses the law to create a better world. We challenge abuses of power, exploitation, inequality and injustice. We had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament in 2019 and have more recently been shining a light on the Government’s conduct throughout the pandemic. We fought for free laptops for children who could not access online education at home, pushed back when dodgy algorithms caused exams chaos, exposed the unlawful VIP lane for lucrative PPE contracts, and helped to force a Met Police investigation into the Downing Street parties. As we look to the future, we’re planning to help communities litigate for themselves, introduce lawyers to the causes they want to support, and use the law more to tackle poverty and its effects.

A bold, young organisation with a ground-breaking track record, we speak the truth and act with integrity. We are proud to be primarily funded by members of the public, which keeps us fiercely independent. Our organisation has experienced meteoric growth over the last two years.

Our close-knit team of staff work across four core areas: fundraising & communications, legal, operations and partnerships. We’re nimble and reactive to external events, which means Good Law Project suits people who thrive in a fast-paced environment and share our passion for upholding democracy, protecting the environment and ensuring no one is left behind. Our culture is one of openness and innovation that encourages all staff to pitch ideas and influence our direction. We are brave, honest and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values. We recognise the value of our employees, individually and collectively, and are our commitment to investing in their welfare.

Supporter Services Manager (interim cover position)

About Good Law Project

Good Law Project uses the law for a better world. Our mission is to protect the environment, uphold democracy and ensure members of marginalised groups are not left behind by society. We hold the Government, firms and other public bodies to account through legal challenges and campaigns for positive change. As a campaigning organisation, we are outspoken and challenge injustice.

Over the past few years, we have led a number of successful legal challenges to protect the interests of the public. We had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament in 2019. Earlier this year, we successfully challenged the Government’s operation of a fast track ‘VIP lane’ for awarding lucrative PPE contracts to those with political connections, and our campaigning played a key role in the Met Police opening an investigation into Boris Johnson over the Partygate scandal. In July, we campaigned alongside Friends of the Earth and Client Earth to deliver a rare win for the climate: the High Court found the Government’s net zero strategy was unlawful and ordered Ministers to update it.

We raise funds directly from the public for our work in the public interest and operate on a not-for-profit basis. We are a young, fast-growing organisation, which values bravery, honesty and decisiveness. We recognise the value of our employees, individually and collectively. We entrust our commitment and investment in their welfare.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Campaigns, the Supporter Services Manager will ensure supporters and the wider public have an excellent experience in all their interactions with Good Law Project. This will involve maintaining best practice to deliver an exceptional supporter experience to our current and potential supporters, effectively analysing and using data, and overseeing the work of the Supporter Services Assistant. The Supporter Services Manager will also ensure other teams within Good Law Project have the data and insight required to run more effective campaigns and to grow our regular donor fundraising programme.

Good Law Project is currently undergoing a process of upgrading its website, CRM, and campaign action tool kit.  This vacancy has arisen as the substantive postholder is being seconded to work on this project team.  They will still be within the organisation and will play a key role in the induction process for the interim and be on hand to answer questions and queries.

The full job description, personal specification, Good Law Project values and structure chart can be found in this job pack.

Salary: £38,900 per annum (pro rata for part-time) with generous benefits including enhanced pension contribution, 25 days annual holidays plus public holidays.

Hours: 35 per week over 5 days Monday to Friday.

Contract type: 8 month fixed term contract

This is a full-time role however we would be willing to consider flexible options.

Location: Working primarily from our office in central London (subject to any COVID-19 restrictions) with options for some flexibility to work from home.

How to apply: Please send a one 3-page document consisting of:

    • your CV (max one page)

      • where you found out about the job opportunity
      • include details of two employment referees
      • your availability on Monday 7 November 2022 for interview via Zoom

We ask all candidates to send their 3-page document to [email protected]
