Help fund healthcare for trans kids

This week, the families of trans kids receiving gender-affirming care at a Brighton medical practice were notified that their children’s treatment would be withdrawn in a matter of weeks.

The abrupt ending of this essential care follows an extremely harmful decision by NHS England, the local NHS Trust, the former Health Secretary Wes Streeting, and his replacement, James Murray.

When trans healthcare is blocked, trans children – and their need for healthcare – still remain. To protect their children, families affected are forced to turn to private sources or even buy medication on the black market.

That’s why Good Law Project is dedicating funds for gender affirming private healthcare for at least 10 young trans people whose treatment has been withdrawn and whose financial need is greatest.

Your donation means we can support even more trans kids to receive the medical care they urgently need.

The government’s attempt to forcibly detransition trans children is a moment of deep national shame. Investigations carried out in the last year found that deaths by suicide of trans young people under 18 surged following a withdrawal of gender-affirming healthcare. Too many trans people are falling through the gaps and being actively harmed by UK healthcare and society, and this decision will only make it worse.

With your help, we’ll do everything in our power to protect them.

Details

Good Law Project will fund access to gender affirming private healthcare for at least ten trans minor patients of WellBN whose treatment has been withdrawn and whose financial need is greatest for three years or until those children turn 18 (whichever is the sooner). The triaging will be done on our behalf by Anne Health who you can email on support@anne.health.

Given the importance of the issue, we have waived our usual 10% contribution to core costs.
