Help the Greens protect trans members

In October 2025, the Green Party rejected an application for a stall at their annual conference from the “gender critical” group Green Women’s Declaration.

The group launched a legal challenge, claiming the party was discriminating against them because of their beliefs about gender.

The Greens recognise the rights enshrined in the Equality Act 2010 for people to hold gender critical views. But the Party’s right to organise and operate in line with its manifesto and code of conduct is protected by Articles 10 and 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Trans rights are enshrined in the Greens’ constitution and formed a key part of its last manifesto, and political parties must be free to stand by their principles. 

In the broader political landscape, a barrage of legal attacks is threatening to drive trans people out of public life. It’s vital that trans people have a political platform – and a safe place to make their voices heard.

The Greens are standing up for their right to make trans people feel welcome, so we’re defending them in court. In our view – we don’t speak for the Green Party – it’s incredibly important that there be a political party which is wholeheartedly committed in its support for the dignity of trans people.
