A personal message from Jolyon Maugham25th June 2020
Good Law Project started, without a single big backer and no employees, in my office just three years ago. It is astonishing then to look back at what we were able to achieve in 2019. Set against a Government intent on ignoring the will of our elected representatives, we were able to secure a series of landmark victories that proclaimed the sovereignty of Parliament.
However, the General Election at the end of last year has meant we can’t look to Parliament to provide all necessary checks on the Government. Challenges to political failures will also need to come through the courts.
In 2019, we were successful in building an organisation that stands ready to take on those challenges. The number of people who support the work of Good Law Project has grown and continues to do so. Our very first staff team is now in place. We have strengthened our relationships with those in the legal community who wish to litigate in the public interest and the public which needs their help.
If you would like to read more about what we achieved in 2019, you can read Good Law Project’s inaugural annual report here.
The world now looks very different to one we could have imagined last year. All of us are coming to terms with what the COVID-19 pandemic means for our lives, livelihoods and the society we live in.
We believe that Good Law Project has a role to play in supporting the millions whose lives will be harmed by the disruption the virus will cause. This will no doubt be difficult, challenging work. But with your support, it remains possible to make life a little easier for those worst affected by the coronavirus crisis and hold those in power to account.
Good Law Project is only able to continue its work thanks to our supporters. We want to take this opportunity to say thank you to each and every one of you.
Good Law Project is able to carry out its work thanks to donations from thousands of people. If you are in a position to do so, you can make a donation here.
