View our privacy policyThe Attorney General, Suella Braverman MP, reportedly told the Cabinet that Dominic Cummings broke no laws, despite travelling to Barnard Castle to ‘test his eyesight’ during the coronavirus lockdown. And her comments were released publicly.
The Attorney General is responsible for giving independent legal advice to the Government and the management of the prosecution services in England and Wales. Underpinning these roles is a constitutional duty to uphold and promote the rule of law. These duties can only be discharged without political considerations or influence.
The Attorney General stands almost entirely alone in the legal community in thinking Mr Cummings’ actions were lawful. And an Attorney General who will provide politically expedient legal advice undermines the ability of police forces to prosecute, and the rule of law generally. It is an alarming sign of the health of our democracy.
Will you sign the petition and demand the Attorney General releases information about the legal advice she issued in support of Dominic Cummings?
