Minimum wage at Monocle

We brought proceedings with Amalia Illgner against Tyler Brûlé’s media empire, Monocle. Monocle – an empire then given a nine-figure valuation – refused to pay minimum wage to those working in its offices.

We sued it in the Employment Tribunal. Monocle initially denied liability, then offered to pay Ms Illgner off without liability. We pressed on and eventually they paid Ms Illgner the full amount – and admitted liability.
