Voter ID: protect the voting rights of young people and marginalised communities

We’re planning to bring forward a legal challenge ahead of the next General Election to ensure that the new requirements for photo ID don’t disenfranchise people and deprive them of their democratic rights.

Case overview

09/02/24 – We have launched first stage proceedings against the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on the unlawfulness of his response to the report of the Electoral Commission on the impact of the voter identification requirements contained in the Elections Act 2022 at the May 2023 local elections. We are supporting claimant Alice, whose disabilities present a direct barrier to her ability to provide the required voter ID.
