We’re suing Virgin Active over their transphobic rules

Last summer Virgin Active banned trans people from bathrooms and changing rooms across the UK – so we’re taking them to court

Case overview

In February 2025, Virgin Active put an immediate changing room and bathroom ban on trans people after receiving a legal threat from Sex Matters’ Michelle Dewberry.

But Dewberry’s threat relied on a misreading of the Supreme Court decision on the definition of sex under the Equality Act. The court never said that trans people can’t use the bathroom of their choice. And despite 8,500 people telling Virgin Active to stop following transphobes and follow the law, they didn’t listen.
