Don’t gag NHS doctors and nurses

Doctors and nurses are risking their lives to take care of us during the Covid-19 pandemic. But they don’t have adequate protective equipment to keep them safe – and there are multiple reports that they are being prevented from speaking out about the scale of the crisis.

Frontline NHS staff say that they have been told by bosses not to speak to journalists and that their social media accounts are being watched. One doctor said that they were told by management: “If we hear of these concerns going outside these four walls, your career and your position here will not be tenable going forward.”

If the people on the frontline of fighting Covid-19 are gagged, we will have no way of knowing just how serious the lack of protective equipment is.
