Today, the Government has published its revised Net Zero plan – just a day before the court-ordered deadline – as a result of the legal challenge we brought together with Friends of the Earth, Client Earth and environmental campaigner, Joanna Wheatley. The High Court found in our favour – ruling that the original strategy was inadequate and unlawful, thereby forcing the Government to produce a new plan.
Last July, we won a legal challenge, brought together with Client Earth, Friends of the Earth and environmental campaigner, Joanna Wheatley, against the Government to force it to improve its inadequate and unlawful Net Zero Strategy.
The Government will not pursue an appeal against the High Court ruling in our case.
Government’s strategy for getting to Net Zero is inadequate and unlawful, the High Court has found, following a successful legal challenge brought by Good Law Project, Joanna Wheatley, Client Earth and Friends of the Earth.
A date has now been set for the substantive hearing in our Net Zero legal challenge. We will be going to court on 8 and 9 June this year, alongside ClientEarth and Friends of the Earth, who have also brought claims in relation to the Government’s Net Zero Strategy.
