About Good Law Project

Good Law Project’s mission is to achieve change through the law. We defend, define and change the law to protect the environment, uphold democracy and ensure no one is left behind. We hold the government and others to account through challenges in the courts, and through campaigning for positive change.

We are a small and young organisation, but we have been expanding quickly, with increasingly prominent and successful legal cases: we had a primary role in over-turning the prorogation of Parliament 18 months ago and have very recently been shining a bright light on the government’s award of PPE contracts and jobs to their friends and associates. We raise funds directly from the public for our work in the public interest, and operate on a not for profit basis. We are brave, honest and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values.

We have a team of 12 people currently, at different stages of their specialist careers in law, communications, research, policy, campaigning and corporate and governance support – but all united in their energy and commitment to GLP and the public it serves. We expect our team to grow by 6-8 roles over the coming 12-18 months, and as it does, we are committed to doing the best for them so that they can successfully achieve our aims and develop their capabilities.

We are now looking for an experienced and well-qualified HR Business Partner who shares our values and is committed to our causes, and who knows how to help a small organisation make the transition from start-up to a more established state, building a firmer organisational foundation for future growth and change. We have many ideas and plans for the future and our HR Business Partner will help to bring them to fruition.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced HR professional who wants to bring their generalist knowledge, wisdom and energy to an exciting and growing small organisation committed to the public good and to doing things the right way – and being seen to do so.

You will report to our Chief Operating Officer and there is some HR administrative support. You can see how the role fits into the current GLP team on our structure chart.

Salary: £40,000 per annum pro rata with generous benefits

Hours: Part – time: 0.4-0.6 FTE (14 – 21 hours per week), preferably spread over 4-5 days

Contract type: permanent, after completion of 3 months’ probation

Location: Remote currently due to COVID-19; ultimately working in central London with some flexibility.

Essential experience and attributes

The successful candidate will:

  • Have several years’ experience of delivery of human resources services, advice and support
  • Have generalist HR experience in employment relations case work
  • Be able to use and develop HR management information systems
  • Be able to evidence operating in a “start-up” environment and delivering HR projects from design to completion in a fast-paced environment
  • Support GLP’s values and demonstrate commitment to its areas of work
  • Have a professional HR qualification at CIPD level 5 or equivalent.
