About the Role

Good Law Project’s Board sets the organisation’s strategic direction, ensures the effective delivery of our plans, and oversees the management of the organisation’s affairs. The formal relationship between the non-executive board and the executive Senior Management Team is governed by a documented scheme of delegation, which sets out those powers reserved to the board. Members of the Board also bring their expertise to bear in offering support and advice on requests from senior staff. They are kept involved through regular communication and the chance to feed into specific workstreams.

We seek to appoint two new board members with skills, perspectives and experience to complement those of our current Board members and expand the Board’s capacity and capability to meet opportunities and challenges ahead for Good Law Project.

We seek board members who bring:

  • Professional knowledge of public law, or the law more generally or
  • Fundraising and /or marketing knowledge and experience, focusing on individual giving or B2C marketing. Experience in high-value or grant-giving programmes would also be welcome.

We are committed to ensuring that GLP is an inclusive organisation and that we do better to build a more diverse board. As part of our commitment to recruiting fairly, we use anonymised-selection processes until the interview stage, offer additional interview opportunities to the highest-scoring candidates from under-represented communities, and use ‘tie-breaker’ provisions at all stages of our selection process.

We are using positive action in our recruitment as part of that commitment. This means we actively seek new board members from under-represented groups (people of colour, women, and young people). If two candidates are equally qualified for the role, we will choose the candidate with this background. Please let us know if you require reasonable adjustments so we can accommodate your needs.

About Us

Good Law Project is a not-for-profit campaigning organisation that uses the law to create a better, fairer, and greener future for the UK. We know that the law in the right hands can be a fair and decent force for good. Our mission is to protect the environment, uphold democracy and ensure marginalised groups are not left behind. We use the law to tackle important issues of unlawfulness, wrongdoing, and disadvantage. We recognise there are many ways of winning.

  • We litigate: where the law is ignored, we act.
  • We campaign: we increase the costs of breaking the law with public pressure.
  • We empower: we help people to understand and use the law themselves.

How to apply

Charity People is acting as a specialist recruitment agency advisor for these appointments. The appointment of the Board members will be via a formal, open, and transparent recruitment process, to attract the most suitable candidates. We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion as part of our recruitment policies. We, therefore, encourage applications from individuals who meet the required criteria, but we particularly encourage applications from women, people of colour and young people who have the skills we are seeking.

In the first instance, please send your CV to tiku@charitypeople.co.uk, and she will share the recruitment pack with and arrange a call to discuss the formal application process.
