We’re standing with trans people against hate at Hampstead women’s pond

It’s almost crunch time for a legal challenge from an anti-trans pressure group which could see trans people banned from Hampstead women’s pond. We’re not backing down.

The legal battle over Hampstead women’s pond is entering a critical stage. On 17 December, the High Court will decide if the transphobic pressure group Sex Matters can push ahead with its bid to ban trans women from the pond.

This has come about because a tiny group of anti-trans activists has launched a legal case against the City of London Corporation, who manage the ponds. If it wins, trans people could be banned from a space they’ve always belonged.

We won’t stand by and watch them prevent trans people from living their lives. And we’re not alone. More than 12,000 people have already joined us to say clearly: keep hate out of Hampstead Ponds. These voices have cut through the noise made by a small group that is trying to stir up division – and as the hearing approaches they matter more than ever.

Across the world, far-right groups are getting louder. And the sound and fury in Hampstead is part of that wider story. But community, fairness and inclusion are stronger than hate – and if Sex Matters does get permission to take its case forward, we will make that clear in court.

Together we can make sure that Hampstead ponds keep their long tradition of respect and shared community burning bright.

We’re not backing down.
